Following these first heroic steps toward her dream existence as an artist and teacher, Cici continued to make a series of delightful discoveries. She encountered quiet. She found time. She uncovered her great loves, which include but are certainly not limited to drawing, painting, illustrating, handbuilding and watching others create. In finding her true nature, Cici founded ArtShop! for art collectors, students and herself. As a teacher, Cici prides herself in giving her students flexibility to figure out how and what they will produce. She provides supplies and instruction, but she is careful not to "give hard rules for them to follow." Likewise, she allows herself elbow room for her own artistic endeavors. She enjoys working with clay, and she produces playful forms such as colorful handbuilt flowers and functional hand-painted ceramics. Special mixed-media projects, stationery and invitation artwork, lighthearted illustrations, distinctive watercolors and bright acrylics on canvas also comprise her work. Painter Georgia O'Keeffe once declared, "I 've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life – and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do." With gutsiness and a nod to O'Keeffe, Cici is doing exactly what she pleases – bringing beauty into this world through creation and art instruction. ArtShop! represents the makings of one woman's dream: the time, the space and, most notably, the freedom for artistic expression. After decades of quelling her heart's desire to become a full-time artist, she summoned the courage to quit her job. At 55 she began paying attention to her creative self.
